20′ to 80′ Internal Halyard and High Wind Flagpoles
For additional cost, Economy Extra flagpoles, described above, can be fitted with an internal halyard system where a cable and pulley is placed inside the pole, behind a lockable door; a cranking mechanism is used to raise and lower the flag. With this system a ball ornament is an optional addition. Internal halyard systems are especially good in crime areas and locations where high winds are common.
After considering the Wind Speed Chart and the location where you would be installing a flagpole, you might conclude that you need a pole that’s stronger than the Economy Extra series. Several series of such poles are summarized below. Internal halyard systems can be fitted to most of them.
With the Architectural series available through our supplier, wall thicknesses exceed those of the Economy Extra series, and in some cases, the butt diameters are also larger. Thus, wind speed ratings on the Architectural series exceed the ratings of the Economy Extra series. Because of their weight, and size in some cases, these poles must be delivered by 18 wheeler and should be installed by a professional contractor or construction company.
With the Hurricane series available through our supplier, wall thicknesses, and butt and top diameters exceed the Economy Extra series; however, Hurricane series sizes poles are available only in above-ground heights of 25′, 30′, 35′, 40′, and 50′. Like the Architectural series, they must be delivered by 18 wheeler and should be installed by a professional construction company. These are very heavy flagpoles.
Both series are available in satin, clear anodized, bronze anodized, and black anodized finishes.
Unless you fit your with an internal halyard, Architectural and Hurricane series poles come with the following items:
- Single or Multi-piece Aluminum Pole Sections
- Galvanized Steel Foundation Sleeve
- Aluminum Ground Collar
- Gold-colored Ball Ornament
- Cast Aluminum Revolving Truck and Pulley
- Braided Polyester Halyard
- Aluminum Halyard Cleat
- Steel Swivel Flag Clips and Covers

Windspeed Chart
Neither Victory Flags and More™ nor its parent company, nor its affiliated companies, nor any flagpole manufacturer or supplier is responsible for damage related to a flagpole found through this website or at our retail location. Flagpoles and the flags on them are subject to location and Acts of God that are unpredictable and outside of our control. The flagpoles described on this website and displayed at our store are high quality and made in the States, but any number of weather-related factors and owner negligence can result in damage to flags, flagpoles, and nearby objects. Windspeed is but one of innumerable factors that affect a flagpole. The Windspeed Chart shown below is provided only as a general guide.
Victory Flags and More™ does not install flagpoles. You and your professional contractor, if you choose to use one, must carefully follow the flagpole manufacturer’s instructions and local building codes. All wind-related flagpole ratings on this website assume that the manufacturer’s instructions have been followed, that only one properly sized flag is being flown, and that the flag is made of nylon.
The Wind Speed Chart is not absolutely reliable in all situations. Flagpole installation requires knowledge of the soil where the pole will be buried and of the wind loads to which the pole will be be commonly subjected. Specific locations and soil types within any zone shown on the chart can vary and affect the flagpole. For example, the center of a city might have lower wind speeds than a beach or open area on the outskirts. Winds exert force on the flag as well as the pole. Leaving a flag on a flagpole during a storm can create extra load and pressure, especially if the owner is flying an an over-sized flag or more than one flag.
The Windspeed Chart below shows the maximum steady wind that is expected at an elevation of thirty (30) feet above ground level within a fifty-year period of recurrence. Areas with the same maximum constant or steady wind speed are indicated. Areas indicated as “Special Wind Region” are too unpredictable to be included in the chart.
Grades of Upright Flagpoles
All outdoor upright flagpoles on this website and in our store are made in the the States and come in several grades. Select a flagpole that you feel will support the largest flag that you want to fly, in the highest wind speeds to which it might be subjected. Do not install your flagpole in non-compactible, sandy, or marshy soils.
See the Wind Speed Chart above. All wind-related ratings on this website assume that the manufacturer’s instructions have been followed, that only one properly sized flag is being flown, and that the flag is made of nylon. Wind ratings have been provided by the manufacturer or supplier and are in harmony with Guide Specifications for Design Loads of Metal Flagpoles, ASNI/NAAMM FL 1001-07, Fifth Edition.
No warranty is made that the flag sizes associated with any given flagpole may be safely flown in all wind speeds. Personal injury, property damage, and flagpole damage can occur when flying over-sized flags or multiple flags in severe weather conditions. Haul your flag down whenever severe weather of any type threatens.

Architectural and Hurricane Commercial Flagpoles
Flagpoles in these grades have additional height so they can be buried deeper than normal, or their diameters and wall thicknesses could be larger than poles of other grades. Expect increased retail prices and freight costs.
Upright Outdoor Flagpole Finishes
In terms of cost, a satin finish is the least expensive and probably the most common, especially on flagpoles under 60′ in height. A Satin finish has a rougher texture than an anodized finish. Anodized finishes are easiest to clean.
Custom color powder coating is also available. Often, when you see a tall, white flagpole it’s painted with a white powder coat over a satin finish. Some white flagpoles are fiberglass. We do not sell fiberglass flagpoles.
